Have you ever yearned to learn Afrikaans?
Afrikaans is likely the coolest of South Africa’s 11 official languages. It is derived from 17th century Dutch with French and German influences.
My colleagues never explicitly asked me to teach them Afrikaans, but I could tell they secretly longed to be a little more South African, linguistically speaking off course.
Over the next while, I’ll be posting visual aids to teach some basic phrases.
The first installment is a little phonetic gem.
ENGLISH: “Thank you very much”
AFRIKAANS: “Baie dankie”
PHONETIC EQUIVALENT: “Buy a donkey”
Stay tuned for more!
