Much like Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, at long last, my machine has come to life!
Off course, as my invention did not involve reviving miscellaneous sewn-together body parts, my Typ-O-Matic is in fact nothing like Frankenstein in any way…except that it lives!
The Typ-O-Matic (otherwise referred to as “A Gutenberg Folly”) started as a rough prototype, and slowly evolved into a more complete version of itself. It is made from a medley of MDF, Pine, Birch, Bass, Baltic Birch Plywood and Plexi-glass.
The machine was inspired by a combination of things, including: My love for typography, Rube Goldberg machines, Tim Burton and growing up in my dad’s workshop. As the “Folly” suggests, the machine serves no particular purpose, it is a whimsical creation meant to entertain!
